Storm restoration across Pike County

Pike County sits between the Mississippi River and Illinois River in west-central Illinois, placing it squarely in a high-frequency severe weather corridor served by NWS St. Louis. The county has recorded 35 documented tornadoes since 1885, including one F4 event and three F3s, with the most violent storms tracking northeast off Missouri's plains during spring and early summer. Supercell thunderstorms regularly produce large hail and straight-line winds exceeding 60 mph, and the August 2020 derecho that swept through western Illinois caused widespread structural and roof damage across the region. Both the Mississippi River bottomlands on the west and the Illinois River lowlands on the east are subject to significant overbank flooding after heavy rainfall events, making flood-related roofing and structural damage a recurring seasonal threat. Winter ice storms and heavy snow are an additional hazard, with accumulating ice capable of collapsing roofs and snapping trees onto structures throughout the county.
